STRAY ANIMALS.

[TO’ THE EDITOR.J

Sir,—On a recent evening I happened to be passing down Rutene Road, Kaiti, and seeing something huge and ghostly lying in the middle of the road, naturally thought someone had come to grief. I hastened over to give any assistance I could, only to find it was an old gray horse taking liis repose “right in the middle of the road.” Let me give you a short summary of the stray animals I met in Rutene Road last week from Sunday evening to Saturday evening:—Sunday night, 2 horses; Monday night, 2 horses, one with a foal; Tuesday, 2 horses and 1 cow; AVednesdav, 2 horses; Thursday, 2 horses and 1 cow; Friday, 2 horses; Saturday, 2 horses and a foal. Doubtless they' were the same animals turned out eacli evening, but there are certain by-laws that residents are expected to observe. A ranger is appointed to see that such bylaws are observed. Now where was he last week P Ivaiti is not the only part of the Borough that suffers from, this nuisance. Last Saturday evening a cow and calf were wandering about in Stout Street, and should any resident have failed to secure the gate to his garden it would have been —well, good-bye garden. Cannot something he done.—l am, etc., “LONG SILENT SUFFERER.”
