ORMOND GUN CLUB. (FBOM OUB Own cobbespondentT” A very successful meeting of the Ormond Gun Club was held yesterday afternoon, when a trophy (a handsome cruet)' presented by Messrs Nicholls and Griffiths, Ltd., of Gisborne, was shot for by ten competitors. Mr. G. E. Jones proved the winner, with five kills; D. McKenzie, W. Parsons, and A. McKenzie being next with four kills, followed by Father Dignan, A. Colebrook, F. McKenzie, and H. Croxton with three each, and W. McCullough two kills. A sweepstake was afterwards shot for and resulted in W. Parsons winning from Father Dignan, who had to. shoot off for second- place after a tie.with H. Lougher. A meeting of the club was afterwards held, when the report of delegates to the Poverty Bay Gun Club Association was read! and confirmed by the Club, the members being well pleased with the prospects of the Association. , The committee 'resolved that the trophy presented by Messrs L. D. Nathan and Co., Ltd.,, be competed for on Friday next, shooting to commence at 2 p.m. It was also resolved to extend an invitation to the Waerenga-a-hika Club to shoot a scratch match for a dinner on a date to be arranged. Mr. G. E. Jones will provide a trophy for the best shot in either club. MATCH AT TE KARAKA. A clay pigeon match was held at Te Karaka on Saturday to shoot for the fifth round of Mr. Stokes’ shield; unfortunately only two teams faced 1 the traps (viz) Taakipu and Te Karaka, the Ormond team being .otherwise engaged, and for the third time not being able to. compete. ' The shooting of both teams competing showed a marked improvement. The match resulted in a draw, with twentyfour birds each, and it lyas agreed that the same two teams 1 should shoot off on July 22nd. During the afternoon several good open sweepstakes were shot off, being won by F. Clayton, O. Sandlant, M. Doyle, and G. Ashby. • .
