ACTING-PREMIER’S ADVICE TO THE MAORIS. IJPEE PBESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, July 24. Sir James Carroll, in a speech at the Maori meeting at Waaki, strongly urged the natives to allow Europeans to utilise their waste lands. Those owned by individuals should be used by themselves, and those which they" cannot work witli profit to themselves, and where there are a large number of owners should bo worked in solid areas having due regard to how the land could be cut up for sale, lease, or farming. The speech was received with great applause Sir James Carroll left for Wellington by the express train on Sunday night.
