During the paying over of the stakes in the Arnst-Pearce sculling race, Pearce said 1 that he could have won on a foul, but thought that he could win on his merits. Arnst declared : “It was the greatest shock of mv life when I saw I was so near fouling.” Beach, as referee, stated that he would have given a foul if the boats had touched. Arnst declares that he is anxious for more races, but if asked: to go outside the Commonwealth.he will ask a pretty stiff price. His one desire was to win more championships than Beach.
