As a result of negotiations in London between Mr Williamson and Sir Rupert Clarke, the theatrical ventures of Clarke and Meynell will be taken over by the incorporated Williamson’s Company on September 1. . Both firms will be represented on the directorate. (Received August 11, 1.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, August 10. The object of the Williamson-Clarke combine is to reduce the cost, of the production of plays, which during the last four or five yeans have doubled, mainly owing to the increase in royalties and salariesalso to raise tlie artistic tone of the productions brought out, and to regulate dates and the nature of attractions touring Australasia. Amongst the theatres taken over by the combination are the Opera House, Wellington, and the Theatre Royal, Christchurch. Ten to twelve expensive companies are to he kept touring Australia and New Zealand.
