N.S.W. LAMBING RETURN.
A FAVORABLE SEASON
The estimates of the autumn and winter lambing in New South Wales us prepared by the Government Statistician, from returns furnished by tho Chief Inspector of Stock, are now available, Dalgety’s “Weekly Review” supplies the following particulars: It is stated that on December 31st, 1910, the number of ewes in the State was approximately 21,504,000, and of these 12,674,000/or 59 per cent., were associated with the rams for the autumn and winter lambing. 9,921,000 ewes were timed to lamb in itlie autumn and 7,961,000 lambs were dropped, representing 80 per cent, of the ewes, and the probable markings will reach 6.977,000, or 70 per cent. The winter lambing was not quite so satisfactory, as 2,753, 000 ewes gave birth to 2,135,000, or 78 per cent., and the probable markings will not exceed 1,853,000, or 67 per cent, of the ewes. As compared with the previous year, it appears that the season has been more favorable. The .blow-fly pest and the severity of the climates have been responsible for 186,000 less ewes being mated with the rams for the earlier lambing The percentage of births (80 per cent.) is similar to that of the previous estimate, hut the probable markings will represent 70 ner cent., or 5 per cent, 'higher than in the preceding year. The reports indicate an increase cf 258,000 in the number.of ewes reserved for the spring lambing.
