The leaf of the pineapple plant can he wrought into a serviceable- cloth. On July 27 Messrs Sotheby (London) are oifering for sale by auction a series of Captain Cook manuscripts, and among them there is a leaf of the captain’s joural for May 5 and 6, 1770. On May 6 Captain Cook writes: The great number of new plants, etc., our gentlemen botanists have collected in this place occasioned my giving it the name of Botanist Bay.
