London and North-western railwaymen are agitating for a national strike unless the Board of Trade re-open Sir Edward Fry’s award, which settled the labor conditions in all grades till 1913. The Midland Company’s railwaymen at Burton-on-Trent ask for a national strike unless the Board of Trade prevents the penalising of recent strikers. “ARTIFICIAL CONCILIATION.” ATTITUDE OF NON-UNIONISTS. (Received Sept. 14, 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, Sent. 13. A non-unionist signalman, who was a witness at the Railway Commission, said that the agitation leading_ to the 1907 conciliation was the artificial product of the leaders of the Railway Servants Society. The majority of the signalmen did not desire an ultimatum demanding the recognition of the Union, as they had obtained valuable concessions and considered it inopportune to make fresh, excessive demands, which were the cause of the recent trouble. THE LITHCOW DISPUTE. A PROBABLE DEVELOPMENT. (Received Sept. 14, 12.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 13. The iron moulders threaten to refuse to work pig iron produced by nonunionists at Lithgow. The bounty paid to Hoskins, Ltd. to date is £54,794.
