HOOKEY.

POSITION OF THE TEAMS

Now that the Hockey competition has been concluded for another year, a short outline of the year’s play and results may not be out of place. At the end of the third round it looked a very soft thing for West End, who were a long way ahead and it being impossible to head them before the end of the season. However, by not 100-sing a match since then, the Y.M.C.A. club finished three points behind The season has been a fairly interesting one, the games, especially towards the end of. the season, being closely contested, and in tlie main played in a very friendly spirit. It is interesting to note that out of a total of 114 goals scored through^the season, the winning team have 55 to their credit, while Y.M.C.A, have the lowest number scored against any club (17). The West End Club only losttwo games, and Y.M.C.A. three games throughout the season. It is rather a pity that latterly City and Civil Service coiild not always muster their full eleven as. this robbed some of the games of interest. The position of the clubs at the end of the competition is as follows':

NAPIER TEAM DEFEAT LOCAL CLUB. An interesting hockey match took place on the Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon, when Napier Mercantile, winners of the Hawke’s Bay senior championship, played and defeated the local Mercantile team, by 2 goals to one. The scores for the winners were Anderson (captain) and Dixon, whilst L. Bright notched the goal for the home team. Although 'fairly evenly contested, the game was not characterised by much brilliant play, but was just vigorous enough to- make things interesting. Mr. Letcliford made an efficient and satisfactory referee. The Napier team have an engagement to meet West End on the Domain this afternoon.
