BARQUENTINE TEMPORARILY ABANDONED.
THE CARLA OFF 1 WANGANUI
LPER FREBS ASSOCIATION..! WANGANUI, Sept. 19. The Danish barquentine Carla, 30 days out from Newcastle _to Wanganui, coal ladem, was last evening left by the crew at the anchorage in the roadstead, about four miles from the Wanganui bar. She was sighted on S-atui-day and an attempt made to tow her in by the steamer Gertie yesterday afternoon failed owing to the tow rope breaking five times. A heavy wind and sea came on and the crew deemed it advisable to leave the vessel at anchorage and they came to town by the Gertie'/ They had a rough time when leaving the barquentine in one of her boats, and before being taken aboard the Gertie. Tie crew intend, boarding her again when the 'weather moderates. There is no danger sq long as the anchors hold.
