SERIES OPENS BRISKLY. PRICES REVEAL A DECLINE. [UNITED PZEH3 ASSOCIATION— COPYEIGHT.j LONDON, Sent. 26. The wool sales opened briskly. Prices are from par to 7\ per cent, decline. (Received Sept. 27, 9.45 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 27. At the wool sales 7510 bales were offered, including 5741 of New Zealand wool. As compared with the July closing rates, the following are the prices realised for the fleece portion of the clips named:— Good combing merinos, par to 5 per centum decline; faulty, 7\ : fair crossbreds, 5; medium, 7\ ; coarse ditto, par to 5. There was a very large attendance, and good spirited and keen competition. LOCAL FIRMS’ ADVICES. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., received the -following cable to-day: “Medium crossbreds show a decline of 10 per cent., compared with closing rates of July sales.’’ The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., are in receipt of the following cablegram from their London house: “Wool sales: There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and Continental buyers being irregular, and prices, as compared with the close of preceding Bales, ruled in buyers’ favor. The opening catalogues wore fairly representative. As compared with Last sales’ closing rates, prices are about par to 5 i>e>r cent/ lower for merino, about 5 per cent, lower for coarse crossbred and fine crossbred, and! about 5 to 7\ per cent, lower for coarse greasy crossbred. ’ ’ The Bank of New Zealand, Gisborne, yesterday received the following cable from their London, office re wool sales: “The sales have opened with strong competition and a large attendance of buyers. Crossbreds and slipes, all kinds, prices are lower by 5 to 7\ per cent.; 05,000 bales of New Zealand wool available.’’
