A cab-washer named William Walter Caffyn, of Swinbrook Road, Kensington, was charged at West London Police Court last month with attempting to commit suicide by hanging himself, with a rope. Police-constable Batley said that the defendant’s little boy came to him in the street and said “Come quickly ; father is hanging himself.” He went to the house and found that the rope had been taken off the man’s neck. The boy told him that he saw his father hanging from the bedpost.- Defendant: I did not do it intentionally. I did it to frighten my wife. She had not spoken to me for seven days, and X thought it would make her speak. The prisoner was discharged.
