GISBORNE HARBOR BOARD.
EXTENSION OF BREAKWATER
ONE TENDER RECEIVED
The Gisborne Harbor Board met yesterday to consider tenders for the extension of the breakwater. Present: Messrs J. Tow nicy (chairman), J. Clark, T. Holden, J. Brown, A. S. Wachsmann, E. V. Palmer, A. Sawyer, G. Smith, B. J. Holdswort-h and G. W. Humphreys. The chairman said that they had received a telegram from Messrs LangLancls and Co., Nelson, stating that they were tendering for the work of extending the breakwater 200 feet. Their price was £13)799 for the extension in concrete, and they had posted' written tenders. This was the only tender received.
The secretary stated that a representative of the firm had been inspecting the work, and also the Waihirere stone. The company had just completed a large work at Motueka, and had . all the necessary machinery.
The chairman stated in reply to a question that Air Holmes’ estimate was 2,000,
_ Air Brown said he did not think, m view of Mr Holmes’ estimate, that the tender was unreasonable. He thought that it would he better to defer consideration of the matter till Monday next, when the written tender would be to hand. He moved accordingly. Mr Palmer seconded the motion, which was carried.
