GUILTY OF MURDER.

DR. PEACOCKE MURDERED MISS DAVIES. IS SENTENCED TO DEATH. (United Press Association—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 25. Dr. Peacocke has been found guilty of the murder of Miss Davies, and was sentenced to death. Prisoner denied that he told Poke the girl died, and that he secretly disposed of the body and burned the clothes. He knew nothing of the whereabouts of Davies after she left the hospital on August 25. He recognised it would have been better to have thought less of her secret and more about himself, and to have franikly told the detectives what he knew.

The Chief Justice strongly summed, up against the prisoner, stating.it was a particularly heinous offence which had caused the death of the girl. It was a dreadful menace to the community. It struck at all that was best from the Stat’es point of view in the sytsem of marriage. The practices of such men as Peacocke induced young girls to take risks and perils and to lead an impure life.
