RAISING THE POPULATION.
BIG BATCH OF ARRIVALS
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. With the arrival of two Heme liners, the Athenic and the Turakina, and the Sydney steamer Moera'ki, the population of the Dominion was considerably added to to-day. The Athenic brought 650 passengers, 491 in the third class, 95 in the second, end the rest in the saloon. There were 174 assisted immigrants, 123 adults and 51 children, and the l list included 30 farm laborers, ten farmers, and 40 domestic servants. The latter came cut in charge of Miss Heliier, matron, and are booked to various parts of the Dominion. Sixteen wives are rejoining their husbands. The Athenio landed 117 passengers at Hobart for Australian ports. The _Turakina’s passengers numbered 359, of whom 294 were in the third class. Assisted immigrants by her totalled 28 adults and 3 children, including 14 domestics. The Tomgariro, due. on December 7tih-, has about 450 assisted immigrants on hoard. One hundred domestics are coming by this steamer.
