TURANGANUI CLUB

There was a large attendance, of members on the green of the Tura-n----gamui Club yesterday afternoon, and keen interest was taken in the play. Ladies attended in strong force, and indulged in croquet. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. M. G. Nasmith, juinr., who: was assisted in the dispensing by Miss Hooper, the refreshments being much appreciated.. Chief interest Centred in the completion of the first round of the 1 Cope Feathers 1 , tlie results . yesterday being:— —Cope Feathers.— H. Martin. J. B. Leydon, V. Hooper, M. G. Nasmith, senr (skip) (Bpts) 37 beat A J. Nicol-, T. McConnell, M. A. Neill, J. J. Martin (skip) (scr) 24 Sawyer acted as substitute for Martin. On tlie 3rd head Nasmith’s rink got in a six, and led by 10 to 2 on the 4tli head. Sawyer, however, evened up matters on the 14th head, with 17 all.From this point Nasmith’s rink drew steadily away, and won easily at the finish by 13 points. _ _ W F. Crawford, D. Barry, J. On the, 9th head the scores were even, 10 all, while on the 12th 1 head McWbirter’s rink were 12 to 11. On the 15th head Simson had reversed the position in his favor, with 14 against 13 while on the 18th head, by getting in’a five and a three, MoWhirter’s nuk led by 21 to 15. Simson scored a single on the 19th head, followed by a four on the next head. On the 21st head, with their opponents lying two, Simson drove with his last bowl and obtaineo the shot, and tied. On the extra head Barry drew a lovely one on the jack toi Simson; it was not dislodged, and won the game for his side.. . A committee meeting of the Gisborne Bowling Club was held last evening. Mr W ‘Petrie presided. A list of players for the Witty and Jeune Pennant matches was submitted, and it was decided to post it on-the notice board outside the pavilion. Members whose names appear thereon and who cannot play in the matches are requested l to notify the. secretary at once. The Napier Bowling Club wrote stating they were holding a rink tournament on Monday and Tuesday, January Ist and 2nd. The tournament would be open to all bowling clubs between Dannevirke and Gisborne. The first prizes would be four gold medlals, and the second four pairs of bowls. Tlie entrance fee was 10s per rink, payable with the entries, which will close on Saturday, December 9th. Forty-seven entries have been received for the handicap singles, 45 for the handicap fours, 25 for the. champion singles, and ten for the junior singles. These games will take place later in the season. The senior and - junior inter-Club matches will take place on November 23rd. .This will be the first round 1 for the Witty and Jeune Pennants.
