CORRESPONDENCE.

THE GISBORNE SEAT,

[TO THE EDITOR.]

Sir, —In the event of Sir James Carroll deciding not to contest the’forthcoming election with Mr H. M. Finn, it- is my intention to oppose him in the Government- interests. I may state that I have every reason to feel confident of being returned, and would 1 like to add that as far as I am concerned the fight will be, conducted in a friendly spirit. Trusting you will find space in your valuable columns for this announcement, —I am, etc., W. M. SWIM TON. A DANGEROUS PRACTICE. [TO THE EDITOR.J Sir, —Allow me through the medium of your paper to air a grievance which t'e residents arc suffering at present,’ I refer to the reckless driving of the horses of the local establishments to and from their grazing paddocks. I do not know if there is any by-law which regulates the driving of these horses; if not, it is time one is established. The manner in which these horses are driven is a menace to public safety, and a source of danger to young children especially. Yesterday an accident, which may -easily have had very serious results, occurred, and was caused by a collision between a boy and these Horses. Truly, we have reason to complain if we cannot use our thoroughfares with safety. I am sure I have tlie sympathy and concurrence of _ many residents in bringing this matter before the public. Hoping steps will bo taken to remove this danger,—l am, etc., “PRO BONO PUBLICO.”
