NAPIER NOTES.
DOINGS IN THE DISTRICT. [.SPECIAL TO TIMES.) NAPIER, Nov. 13. The Hospital Board to-day decided to call tenders for the erection of a women’s surgical ward. Mr W. Shmrip-t-on has been re-elected chairman of the Board. Mr J. Vigor-Brown. M.P., on retiring from the chairmanship of the Napier Harbor Board early in the year, was voted a sum of 50 _ guineas, wAh which to purchase a suitable memento of his long association with the Board, and the regard in which he was held by members. Mr Brown, through Mr S. E. Cooper, has purchased as a suitable souvenir, a solid silver tea. and coffee service of Queen Anne design, the salver bearing the following inscription: “Presented to J. Vigor Brown, Esq., M.P., by the Napier Harbor Board, on his retirement from the chairmanship, which position he held from February 1904 until April, 1911. Napier, New Zealand, April 26th, 1911.” Mr M. Marcus, representative of the Rickards Company, is convinced that the construction of the new municipal theatre will mean not only more theatrical companies coming to Napier, but also that each will play a longer season than at present. Speaking for himself he says that if- it were -possible, at- the present moment to book dates for the new theatre he would make engagements for two companies in the coming year, and at least one in the year following, though the Rickards Company have not; been in the habit of coming to Napier. The Wairoa and Mohaka Steamship Coy’s Tangaroa, which sank at the month of the Wairoa 'river last week, was brought on to Napier on. Friday, and had the damage to her hull repaired by Saturday’ night, and underwent her survey to the satisfaction of the Inspector of Machinery, Mr A. E. Mclndoe.
