LIVERY stables affecteo. MATTER BEFORE THE COUNCIL. The matter of compelling owners of stables to make their promises sanitary was brought before the Borough Council last evening., ; i;; V ~ . The Sanitary Inspector reported re the concreting of stables, that, on receipt of the District Health Officer’s letter stating it was .necessary his instructions should be carried out as regards the concreting of stables, lie issued notices to the" several proprietors giving them a further thirty days to- .do the work. Up to the present nothing definite had been decided upon except at the Masonic, stables, where My Hall has given instructions to have the Health Officer’s recommendations carried out, and the work would be put in hand immediately. The new railway stables for Mr J. Chambers in Bright Street had been finished in accordance with the regulations. As regards the stable at Mr James Martin’s house, Stout Street, tenanted by Mrs Neilson, ho was informed it was Mr Martin’s intention to remove the stable. Cr. Collins wanted to know whether the regulations regarding stables applied to private stables. The Mayor said he did not think so. Cr. Collins then pointed out that owners of private stables were being asked to alter their stables to comply with the regulations. Even the owner of the stable where he kept his horses had been served with a notice. Cr. Bright said that the by-law would have to lie administered with common sense and discretion. ' Cr. Collins said that he thought private stables should be floored, as they only helped to spread infection. He thought the Health Officer should be written to asking him if private stables should be floor eel. He moved that the Sanitary Inspector be instructed to inspect all the stables in the Borough and report to the Council. This was agreed to. The report was adopted.
