THE SUFFRAGETTES.
MAKE ANOTHER DEMONSTRATION. 150 ARRESTS MADE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, Nov. 21. Owing to the enormous crowds, the processions of suffragettes were broken up. They were unable to pass tlie cordon of police guarding Parliament Square. Windows in the Government offices and National Liberal Club were smashed. One hundred and fifty arrests were made. Altogether 250 were arrested at the suffragette demonstration, including Lady Constance Lytton and Mrs Pethiek Lawrence. MANY WINDOWS BROKEN. PUBLIC- HAVE MARVELLOUS ESCAPES. (Received Nor. 22. 10.10 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 22. The suffragettes seized the bridles of the constables’ horses and many chained themselves to railings and lamp posts, and were released with difficulty. The arrested include Miss Rilliuglmrst and a cripple whose hands were lasheit to a tricycle. Whilst the police were occupied in Parliament Square, well organised groups of suffragettes engaged in twos and threes in window smashing. After first mixing with the crowns on the pavements they suddenly produced stones, hammers and catapults and smashed scores of windows in the Government Offices. Somerset House, shops, restaurants, post offices and private houses in Whitehall, Parliament Street, Victoria Street and the Strand, also in Viscount Haldane's and Mr John Bums’ private residences, and the “Daily Mail’s’’ headquarters and the “Daily News” office. The public had many marvellous escapes.
