A RECORD STORM.

LIGHTNINC AND HAIL AT NELSON TOWN PARTIALLY INUNDATED. COLD AND WINTRY WEATHER. (Per Press Association.) NELSON, Nov. 24. Last night’s storm, with rain, >hunder and lightning, was the worst on record, but curiously partial within the city, and especially to Toi Toi Valley. The fruit trees and tomato plants were literally stripped of flowers and immature fruit, and all outdoor vegetables and cucumbers were ruined. The hail covered the streets and eaves over six inches deep, and lay in drifts up to 18 inches. It has not yet melted in places, and some of the hills are covered as with snow, while those adjoining them show none. The rain flooded numerous dwellings and shops on the ground floors. At the nurses’ quarters at the hospital the flood invaded all the rooms. Waimea road generally also suffered severely from hail, several green houses having most of the glass broken. The storm area seemed limited to the citv, for it was not felt at Stoke, or Motueka, so that the main orchards are safe. This morning was as cold as midwinter, with sleety rain.
