HARRY LAUDER’S HIT.
DRIVES IN SMALL HOURS TO WIN OVATION.
His fourth American tour was begun in extraordinary fashion bv Harry Lauder in the small hours of a recent Tuesday morning. He. had been billed to appear earlier in the niglit at the Manhattan OperaHouse. The house was crowded with an expectant multitude, but the Sa-x----onian, with Harry Lauder on board, was several hours late, and only reached the quarantine station half-an-hour before midnight. The management- informed tlie audience that Mr. Lauder could not arrive till one a.m. It could have its money back or wait till a special tug and the swiftest motor car brought him to the stage. It decided to wait. He changed into highland costume while tearing up Broadway, and walked into the Opera House up the main aisle amid frantic cheering. When the excited thousands were hushed Harry Lauder quietly asked, " Hue ye people no ha-nies to gang to?" Then ho sang "I Love a Lassie," and nobody needs to be informed that the house did its best with the refrain.
