HARBOR BOARD.

ORDINARY MEETING

The Gisborne Harbor Board met yesL( Presen,. —Messrs. .J. i ownley (chairman), G. K. Humphreys, A. S. Wachsmann, B. J. Holdsworth, T. Holden, C. J. Parker, G. Smith, G. White, G. AVitters, J. Brown, J. Clark, and Dr. Collins.

’The Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat’Co., agents for the British Dominions Insurance Co., Ltd., forwarded a copy of a draft policy that could be issued in regard to the Maui if opportunity offered. The letter was laid on the table.

Mr. AV. Tucker, Lowden Hills, wrote forwarding an order for £l7B 4s lid, rent of section 4, Tamvhareparae. He stated that he Lilly expected that the Board would have had the piece of road formed from the main road to section 5, and so enabled them to get their buildings, etc., erected without going to the exi>ense of packing everything in. 'As the Board had made no move in the matter, ho had been reluctantly compelled to put the old bullock track in order so as to take waggons in, and , also bad to put in two bridges, one oi them 10ft x 28ft. This had cost a fair sum, and he thought the Board should certainly compensate him for the same, as he would not be surprised to see this road eventually made the permanent one. Lie considered that it had cost him £3O, and the Board’s surveyor would reckon it worth more. The Board decided that they could not do anything in the matter. The Borough Engineer wrote offering £1 per week rent for the hire of the steam crane when it was not required by the Board. "The offer was accepted. Lloyd’s Register of British and Foreign "Shipping wrote regarding the classification in the society’s register book of the hopper dredge Maui. They were in receipt of a communication from the society’s surveyor at Auckland, from which it appeared that the vessel was recently docked there when some minor repairs were effected. The surveyor stated that he was informed by the captain that he did not require h'is service, and that the vessel’s class with this society would not be retained. As, however, the vessel would not become due for special survey until the end of next year, they would be pleased to hear what were their intentions with regard to the classification before submitting the case to the committee.

The chairman stated the fee would be £l6 16s, and the Board agreed to keep the vessel’s name on the register. The Overseer, Mr. D. A. McLeod, reported :—“The portion of the papa cliff which obstructed the view between Tuahine light and Captain AV are’s cottage at AVainui has been removed, which took two men six days t-o do. The blasting crew were engaged blasting papa rock in the river ten days this month. The first shipment of timber for the new shed came to hand by the Koutunui on the 9th of this month. Only nine of the foundation piles have come to hand. These are now driven. The balance of the order is expected_to arrive by the same boat about the 27th of this month. One of the mooring piles on the Ivaiti wharf was broken by the Ivowhai’s stern coming in contact with it as she was swinging round before coming to the wharf on her last trip. The Tuatea, Gostord, and one of the Board’s punts were in the slip this month. Stone and gravel removed from Kaiti beach this month was 260 loads as per tickets, besides a quantity of stone and gravel that is being carted off the beach near the island across the range to the AA’aiuui road about half a mile beyond thb 'water trough by. a contractor who. under a contract with the County Council is putting stone and gravel into depots along the AYainni road.”

The Dredgemaster, Air. A. Park, reported:—“l have the honor to report that the spoil dredged by the dredger Maui from the 27th October to the 24th November, totals 23,850 tons, composed of stiff blue clay and silt. Since my last report we have been engaged all the time dredging alongside the Kaiti wharf. Re the John Townley: She lias been principally employed towing the barges, with the exception of five loads which she dredged’ alongside the wharves. Everything is working satisfactorily.” CASH STATEMENT.
