ADVANCES IN THE NAYf

(Per Frees Association.)AUCKLAND, Nov. 27

Speaking at a meeting in the Opera House on Sunday afternoon, Adimr.sl King Ha'l gave a short address, pointing out the advances that had recently been made by the temperance movement in his Majesty’s navy. He said lie was one of six admirals who were strong temperance advocates, and ho wished to identify himself with the temperance movement. His father was an admiral before him, and was one of the first instigators of the temperance movement in the navy. Today 25,000 sailors were teetotallers. He considered that 80 per cent, of the trouble in tho British navy was caused through the use of drink. There was one vessel which for two years had held the shooting records. It was a practice on that ship never to serve tho drink allowance until after tho final shots were fired.
