TUAHINE LIGHT.
TWICE GOES OUT.
The light at Tuahine Point lias recently caused some trouble, and on two occasions since it has been brought into operation it has gone out. The matter came before the Harbor Board yesterday for consideration. The chairman said that a representative of tine Acetone Gas Company had recently visited Gisborne to ascertain the reason why the light had failed, and lie would supply a report on the matter. On the first occasion the light went out owing to a defective cylinder, but the second case the expert discovered that a washer had moved and extinguished the light. Mr Waehsmann thought that they should have an emergency light, which Mr Witters suggested should be an electric signalling lamp like the one recently purchased for the Harbormaster. The chairman pointed out that when the tide was high the liglithousekeeper could not get to the light at night. Several of the members remarked on the danger to shipping if the light failed. They thought that something should be done to minimise the danger. It was the duty of the Board to- get an emergency light and provide for the caretaker getting to the lighthouse if the light went out at night. The chairman thought the exportwould remedy the matter. It was decided to call for a report on the best means of petting to tlie lighthouse at night in case of emergency.
