ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MOTOR CAR CAPSIZES. DRIVER BREAKS HIS NECK. (Per Press Association.; AIASTER TON. Dec. A A well-known settlor of Greyt-own named John Cotter, was motoring from Palmerston North to-day. When about five miles to the north of Masterton tincar became unmanageable, and when descending a hill, and went over an embankment. Mr Cotter jumped from the car and fell on his head, breakinghis neck. Death was instantaneous. Deceased leaves- a widow and one daughter (Airs White) of Porangahau. At the inquest to-day on the body or John Cotter, evidence showed that deceased, in company with a chauffeur named Barling, was driving fiom Palmerston to Alasterton in a now Siddeley car. When ascending a hill about- six miles north of Alasterton, the car got into a water-table. It then skidded across the road and went over an embankment about sixty feet deep. The car fell on Air. Cotter, breaking his neck, and inflicting other severe injuries. Barling escaped Avith broken fingers and bruises. * A verdict of death from misadventure was returned.
TWO SHOOTINC ACCIDENTS.
NOT VERY SERIOUS. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 3
Two shooting accidents have been reported here. Ernest Shakleton, 17 years, residing at Linwood, was getting through a fence, when his gun went off, and he received the charge in his side. His condition is somewhat serious.
John Campbell, 19 years, residing at Addington, when out shooting slipped on a stone, and to save himself threw his gun from him. It event off, however, and he received a charge in the foot and thigh.
CYCLISTS COLLIDE. ONE SERIOUSLY HURT. ASHBURTON. Dec. 2. A nasty accident occurred during the progress of a bicycle- road race last night, by which a bay named W. Shaw collided 'with another competitor, aud fell to the ground, striking at with 1 such force that liei was rendered unconscious. The injuries to his head are very seri.ous.
