POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION

Tiie management committee of tlie Poverty Bay Cricket Association met last evening. Present: Messrs A. R. Gatland (in the chair), Harvey. Allen Jeffries, Golding, Cranney, Walker and McLiskey (lion, secretary). Several players were passed for the Matawhero Cricket Club. The following matches were arranged Alhambra v. United A., turf; Y.M.C'.A. v. United B. concrete. Saturday competition: —School competition : Mangapapa v. Gisborne and Kaiti v. Te Ha para.; senior competition: Wanderers v. Taruheru; Un .ted v. Y.M.C.A. \ junior competition: Alhambra v. High School B. No. 2. Vfa oawhero v. School A. No. I* Y.M.C.A. v. Wanderers, concrete. It'was decided to grant the request of Messrs Pettie and Co. for the rise of the asphalt wicket on Thursday next.

GREAT DISPLAY BY COTTER

New South Wales in their first innings against South Australia made 316. The chief scorers were: Trumper 47, Bardsley 58, Waddy not out /8, Cottei 82. Cotter gave a remarkable display of slogging, and Lit- four sixes and six fours" Tit" scored 80 in forty minutes, and with Waddy scored a century in 37 minutes. Macartney, with a score* of two, was showing poor form. The wic-ket-takers were: Whitty two for 94, Crawford one for 69, Wright three for 40, Roes four for 94. South Australia in their first innings have lest five wickets for 164, Hill 59, Dolling 28, Chamberlain not out 26, and Mayne 21 being the chief scorers.
