ROWING.
POVERTY BAY CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was held last evening, Mr J. Webb presiding. It was decided to row the double scull races next for Messrs J. Duthie and Co.’s trophies. Entries close tomorrow at 5 o’clock. Mr E. Johnstone wrote promising to donate a medal for the most improved first year member. This was received with thanks. Handicappers for the double sculls were appointed as follows: J. Webb, G. Douglas and A. Kirk. The captain, deputy-captain and secretary were appointed to meet the Gisborne Club delegates re the Grieve Cup at an early date. Visiting committee for the week was appointed as follows: Messrs J. Webb and Corbett. Lnst evening three races for the Gaulton trophies were rowed. V. Somerviil’s crew treat W. Neil’s. .). Prickett’s beat R. Kellett’s, and 0. Hansen’s boat J. Corbett’s. In the latter race, when a start was made the first time, Corbett got well away, 1 ut Hansen’s footboard gave way. Corbett agreed to row the race again, and was then defeated, after a good race. To-night J. Prickett meets V. Somervell in continuation of the Can it on fours, 0. Hansen getting a bye. Strokes for Duthie's. double ecu!;; wore selector! last evening a-s follow: J. Corbett, S. Ledger, 0. Hansen J. Weston, P. Stubbs, R. Kellett, T. Parker, J. Webb. C. Clark. W r . Neill, N. Ingram, C. Hall, N. Mcore, _ J. W. Nicholas, V. Somervell, J. Prickett, b. Doig A. Kirk, W r . Hall, F. E. Porter, G. Douglas and J. McConnell.
GISBORNE CLUB. The following were the results of the races for the Petrie Fours (A grade) which commenced last evening: Coleman (stroke), Busby, Brabant, Dods beat Gullv, Everiss, Gallop, Reddell by about three feet, after a most exciting race; Somervell, Daniels, Ivaye and Fraser beat Hansen, Wells, Scott and Muir rather easily by a length. B. grade for Mr B. S'. Cox’s trophies : Quigley. Hudson, Stevenson and Sweet beat Port. Hutton, Jolley and Melville by a canvass after an even race; G. H. Puflett. R. Parsons. Haultain and Maynard beat H. M. Piiflett, D. Parker, Scarf e and He very easily by two lengths. . The races will he continued this evening.
