POVERTY BAY CLUB
The first round of the double sculling events for Duthie and Co/s trophies was rowed over the Taruhoru course on Saturday afternoon The weather was fane, and some excellent, racing was witnessed by a fair number of spectators. Ihe result was as follows: —J. Webb end C. Worrell, 3 seconds, defeated S. Ledger and W. Wilson, 13 seconds. Ledger made the best of his handicap, and led till well past the footbridge, where Webb spurted and drew level with his opponent. A little further on Webb was leading by a length, and eventually won by that mar-o-in. , ° C. Clark and N. Cresswell, 3 seconds, defeated W. Hall and R. Douglas, scratch. Clark made a good start, but was caught by Hall before the footbridge was reached Clark spurted a little later, and drew away from his opponent, and passed the post a length and a quarter to the S °E d ' O’Neill and C. Davis, 10 seconds, defeated J. Nicolas and E. Poswillo, scr. O’Neill made the most of his handicap, and led to the footbridge, where Nicolas got on terms with him. They -iwed level for a short distance, but later O Neill quickened up and drew away, winning races will be continued at 5 o clock this evening, when several more events in the first round will bo decided.
GISBORNE CLUB. The following is the draw for the A Grade races (Mr. C. Buscke s trophies), which commence to-night over the laruheru course: — _ , ~ Monday: Tocker v. Gully, and Tjcroft v. McConville. , TT Tuesday: Puflett v. Hansen, and Hamilton v. Coleman. Wednesday: Winner Pycroft-McCon-ville v winner PufleP Hansen, winner Tocker-Gully v. winner Hamilton-Gole-man. Thursday: Final. in The following is the draw for double sculls for Mr. C. Morse’s trohpies:— Monday: Hutton v. Haultain, and Melville v. Richmond. Tuesday: G. Winter v. G. Fxomm, Quigley v. Stevenson, and Adair v. D9llO- - Parsons, Parker, and Gardiner Winner Winter-Fromm v. Parker, winner Melville-Richmond v. winner Adair-Donovan, winner HuttonHaultain v. Gardiner, Parsons v. winner Quigley-Stevenson. Thursday: Semi-final. Friday: Final. . It is likely that the two races fixed for to-night will not come off, as two crews will probably scratch. If such be the case the races fixed for Tuesday will be rowed to-night.
