THURSDAY COMPETITION.

•The Thursday competition was continued at Victoria Domain under favorable conditions . yesterday. The second round of fixtures were commenced, United A meeting United B on the concrete pitch, and Y.M.C.A. and Alhambra opposing each other on. the turf area. V UNITED Av. UNITED B.

•In the match between these teams vesterday, the A team won .the toss,load ran up the good score of 339, with three men short. S. Lyndon played a very fine innings for 164 not out, in which square cutting, off driving, and crisp on side play were the prmcipal features. He went in first, and -cairied his bat right through the -innings: The United B bowling was weak, and the catching very faulty. At call of time, the B team had lost six wickets for 97 runs. W. Gibson was the only batsman who was able to withstand the bowling of McLeod, who captured five wickets for 35 with his medium-paced leg breaks. Y.M.C.A. v. ALHAMBRA. Tliis match was fought out on the turf wicket. Alhambra batted first, but made a poor stand against the bowling of 11. Jones, Wood, and Harvey, the innings only realising 76. Jones performed the .hat trick. Olsen and SchoL lum were the only batsmen to get going, and both played well. Y.M.C.A. responded with 7S, IT. Jones, Grant, and 1 Wright supplying the 1 bulk of the runs. Scholium bowled well for Alhambra, being responsible for the down, fall of six; batsmen. Alhambra then commenced their second innings, but a train shaped feebly, the whole side being dismissed just before the call of time for 93. Guthrie, Olsen, McLisky and T. Atkinson did the bulk of the run-getting. H. Jones was in his very best form with the ball, and his offbreaks had all the batsmen in serious difficulties.
