Gloomy and wet weather has been experienced generally. The barometer has fal *en steadily northward of Hokitika aad Oamaru, but made little movement eLst where. Strong northerly winds have predominated. The forecast on present, indications are for moderate to strong northerly arid easterly winds, and a falling barometer everywhere, but a rise will probably take place after about 16 hours, when the winds will change to the .southward, and freshen everywhere, with colder weather, in the meantime expect cloudy, , misty and unsettled weather, with heavy rain and rivers rising in many parte of the country.
