GISBORNE BAND CONTEST

LOCAL I INTEREST QUICKENINC.

A REASSURING OUTLOOK.

SOLO COMPETITIONS ATTRACT LARGE ENTRIES-

Some interesting information regarding the North Island Brass Bands’ Association’s contest to be lielcl in Gisborne in about eight weeks’ time was given to a “Times” reporter by All* Jas. Chrisp, secretary of the local committee yesterday. “Matters generally,” said Mr. Chrisp, “were indicative of the contest being a success, and he was of opinion that Gisborne residents would: be quite satisfied with the abundance and the standard of the music to be discoursed 1 . A feature of the contest, would be the side dram competition, in which a number of drummers were expected to take part. Air Donovan, of the Gisborne City Band, who was one of the entrants, was tlie winner of the last competition of this nature held. Lieut. Herd, the judge, was writing a special test piece for competitors in this event.”

The solo entries which had been received, were allocated as follow;
