STATEMENT OF LIABILITIES AND ASSETS. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION .‘J WELLINGTON. Jan. 12. The quarterly statement of the average amount of liabilities and assets of the five banks doing business in the Dominion are to hand. The banks’ positions, as revealed in their statement of liabilities and assets, are as under: Bank of New Zealand liabilities £14,472,362, assets £13,303,821; Union £3,367,137. £4,828,844; New South Wales £3,536,642, £4,590,893; Australasia £2,196.416, £4,214,598: National £3,877,910, £4,523,680; totals, £27,459,469 and £27,461,836. The aggregate assets and liabilities for the 'December quarter of the first two years make the following comparison :—Assets, December, 4 910, £27,590,043; December 1911, £27,461,836. Liabilities, £20,202,569 ■ and £27,450,469. Excess of assets, £1,35v,474 and £11,367. With respect to fixed and free deposits the returns show an increase of but .£867,812. Free deposits on current accounts have increased by £BOO,OOO, all the banks showing increases, under this heading.
