ACROSS THE CARPATHIANS. TRAVELLERS HAVE A HARD TIME [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] (Received January 15, 11 p.m.) PARIS, Jan. 15. Du Connet and Du Pout ballooned from Plamettebrouel to Sokolowski. in Russia, fifty metres beyond the record. They crossed the Carpathians at a height of ten thousand feet. The flight lasted 29hrs oomins, and they finished in a snowstorm. The thermometer registered four degrees below zero Fahrenheit. When they alighted there was no habitation in sight. Their provisions were frozen, and they were foodless for three days. They were obliged to leave the balloon, but saved a basket of instruments.
