ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SEAMAN’S SUDDEN END
[PER TRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, Jan. 21. A seaman named Edward Thomas Mull and. when going aboard his vessel, the MarqrOj about 10 o'clock last evening, fell between the vessel and the wharf. A companion dived, but could not find the missing man, who was not found till early this morning by the police. He bore an abrasion on the forehead, and evidently lilt a stringer of the wharf. At the time of the fatality the man was under the influence of drink. An inquest was held this afternoon. The victim recently came from Wellington to join the vessel. He is thirty-three, but whether married or single is unknown.
KILLED BY FALL OF EARTH. WHANGAREI, Jan. 20.
The police have received information that a. man named S. Box was killed by a fall of earth in a cutting on the Ivaikohe railway construction works. It is supposed that he has relatives living in Vincent Street, Auckland.
BURIED IN HIS CLAIM. HOKITIKA, Jan. 20. John Spencer, an old and respected miner, was buried in his claim by a fall of earth yesterday. His body was recovered by a rescue party at 5 o'clock this morning. DEAD IN HIS CHAIR. STRATFORD, Jan. 20. Herbert S. Priestly, a well-known furniture dealer, was found dead in an overturned chair at his residence today- Deceased, who lived alone, was last seen alive on Wednesday- Death is supposed to be due to natural causes.
