ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DROWNING FATALITY
[per press association.] BLENHEIM, Jan. 23
George E. Lewis, a young man, single, was drowned in the Awatere River near Jordan. The police were informed that tho man was seen on the road in a state of delirium tremens. A constable rode out and investigated on h 11 ~ dav and after a search found the body in' the river. A verdict of found drowned was returned. FALL FROM A TRAIN. HAWERA. Jan. 23. ()n tho avival of the express train from New Plymouth to-day it was reiKH'ted that an adult newspaper runner laid fallen off the train a few chains from the station. The man was found in a semi-conscious conditon, with his leg and thigh broken and a. nasty contusion on his head. He is unknown here, but from the railway pass found in bis pocket bis name appears to be Alfred E. Mills.
CHILD FEARFULLY INJURED. AUCKLAND, Jan. 23. V «ad aeiedent occurred yesterday to a, little son of Mr J. Belcher, at the Pukeweka sawmill, near Taumanmui. Tlie deceased and Ins brother, aged. 4 years, were walking on the tramline when the locomotive coming down from the bush with logs, rounded a bond on a down grade. The children, evidently freditor.eel by the engine, ran across the track right in front of it. The driver did alfhe could to stop, but was unable to do so in time. The elder boy was struck by the locomotive but was thrown clear.unhurt; but his little brother aged 19,months, was run over and dread hilly injured, his leg and arms being severed by the wheels. lie was taken to the local hospital, where, lie succumbed. •
