GISBORNE FIRE BOARD.
The Gisborne Fire Board met yesterday. Present:—Messrs Jolm Townley (chairman), Geo. Smith,_ J. Brown, S. S. Dean, G. Tliornc George and G. Evans. The report o fthc committee meeting at which it was decided to purchase a Simonic fire tender was read by the secretary. The action of the committee was confirmed on the motion of the chairman,. who remarked that the engine would be here in six or seven months, and expressed the hope that there would he no fires in the meantime. The question of erecting a firebell was brought up by Mr Dean, and it was doeided to erect a hell at the intersection of Ormond road and Hall street. The following report was read by the secretary: Since the beginnig of the year, July Ist, 1911, there have been 25 alarms for which this Board has had to pay £Bl 17s. There were 4 false alarms included in this number, and one lire was outside the Gisborne Fire District. the house being situated in Make ra ka, and occupied by Mr C. Suff. The total value of properties on which fires have occurred as ascertained up to the present arc as followsßuildings £4735, contents £IB7O, total £6605; insurances on properties under these heads, £3865. £1475. £5345: total losses by fire and water on same amounts to £3510, £l3lO, £4820. The loss, to insurance companies up to tlio present, as Par as can be ascertained, is £4016. The report was adopted. _ Some discussion took place in relation to the transfer of a section near the Wbataupoko bridge to lie used for the erection, of a new fire station. It was agreed to make representations to the Borough Council concerning the matter. : j
