AUCKLAND HOSPITAL TROUBLE.

MINISTER MAKES A STATEMENT

MAY BE REGARDED AS SETTLED

[PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, June 3

As a speedy response to urgent telegrams despatched from Auckland during the week the Minister (in charge of Hospitals (Hon- G. W . Russell) arrived by 'the Main Trunk express on Saturday morning from W ellington to inquire into tiio cause of the dissensions which have been threatening the welfare of the district hospital. At 10 a.m. the Minister met tne Hospital and Charitable Aid Board at its offices in High Street. At midday he conferred with the honorary medical staff of the hospital at the Grand Hotel, and in the afternoon he met the nursing staff at the hospital. At the meeting there were in attendance the members wlio met to bring in their finding concerning the charges against 'the matron, namely, the Chairman (Mr. H. Schofield), Messrs J. S. Rutherford, P. J. Nerlienv. H. Potter, J. S. Dixon. M.P. The five members who remained away from the meeting in question were also present, as follows: Messrs P- M. Mackav, M- J. Coyle, J. Jenliin, F. Dye, and F. J. H. Ellisdon. The press representatives in attendance were informed that all three conferences were to be held privately. When waited upon subsequently by .a reporter, the Minister said that he had met the members of the Hospital Board, and with them had a full and free discussion of the various points in dispute in connection with the administration of the institution: Subsequently he met members of tile medical and consulting staff, . and with them also lie had a discussion of one and a-half hours’ duration concerning the position that had arisen.■ “As the result of these discussions, said the Minister, “the whole of the difficulties that have,, arisen in connection with the institution, may. he regarded as settled. The chief points in the dispute have been left over to arbitration, of the electors at the periodic elections to take place next year.
