THE STRIKE AT WAIHI.
“GET OUT OF IT!” THE BEST THING TO DO. Bv Telegraph—Special Correspondent. ~ AUCKLAND, June 9. Strike affairs at Waihi seem to have reached a point where the feelings of those most interested are becoming more pronounced. Members of the Engine-drivers’ Union receive considerable attention when they appear in the town, and are subjected to heckling of various descriptions. There is also evidence that the ban of the boycott is now resting heavily upon a certain picture, theatre. In view of Mr Pryor’s recent statement as to the proposed conference, the end seems further off than ever, and numbers of men have come to the conclusion that the- best thing to do is to get out of it. There is hardly a family, an institution, or a business in the town that the strike has not materially affected.
MR. PARRY AND THE FEDERATION. THE VICE-PRESIDENCY RESIGNED. [PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND. June 9. The Auckland Star states that Mr W. E. Parry, vice-president of the Federation of Labor, and president of the Waihi Miners’ Union, has resigned the former position on account, it is said, of what he believes to be the adversely critical attitude shown towards him by members of the various federated unions in regard to his action in bringing on the strike at Waihi.
