HOCKEY.

LADIES’ COMPETITION. HIGH SCHOOL (8) v- KOWHAJ (1). The ladies’ competition was continued on Saturday at the reserve. High .School met and defeated Ivowhai by 8 goals to one after an interesting game. High School had the best of matters, their opponents showing lack of combination and fortn. On commencing play was fairly even for the first fifteen minutes, but from then on High School had the best of matters, goals being very frequent. Goals were scored for Higfi School by B. .Butterfield (4), C. Bat-v and M. Fairlie (2 eachk while M. Malcolm scored Kowliai’s only goal. B- Butterfield, C. Baty and M. Fairlie were the pick of the school forwards, while L. Fanning, R. Baty and N. Gallagher were the best of the backs; and M- Malcolm the best of the Ivowhai eleven. Messrs Olsen and Rice refereed.

MEN’S MATCHES. Play was fast and exciting in the match Civil Service A. v West End, and the game resulted in a draw, one goal each. Auld scored for the Civil Service team and Roderick for Most End. . i On a ground containing more miniature mountains than anything, Civil Service B, playing with less than half a team, stood up against Mercantile for some time and were thoroughly licked by seven goals to nil.
