ENTERTAINMENTS.

BATHE PICTURES. Appreciation was expressed in no uncertain manner by tbe large audience at His Majesty’s Theatre last night. The complete 'change of programme screened Rad much to commend it, and the' frequent applause that rang through the house testified to the pleasure tho audience derived from the performance. The star film “Lieut. Rose and the Moorish Raiders,” called up unbounded enthusiasm, the courageous work of the gallant naval hero appealing to the patriotism of the crowd. The dramas, “Cain’s Retribution” and “Forgiven in Death,” both proved highly interesting, the acting in each being much admired. Tho comedy, “Some Mo-ther-in-Law,” provided keen amusement and was much enjoyed. “Crocodile Farming” made a good industrial subject, and “Italian Cavalry” contained feats of oquestrianship that could not fail to cause enthusiasm. The Pathe Gazettes, both Home and Australian, were full of interesting events, and the scenic and comic numbers were well up to Plemsoll mark. No pictures will be shown tonight or to-morrow evening, but a complete change will be submitted on Saturday. THE ■ENGLISH PIERROTS. The English Pierrots, who have just concluded their summer season at the Pavilion, Melbourne, have had a most successful time. This happy combination will make their appearance at His Majesty’s) Theatre to-night, under the direction of W. and R. Thomas and Maynard Dakin. They ore bringing with them an augmented company, and a complete repertoire of entirely -iiew songs, duets, trios, quartettes, and concerted numbers. The company now consists of eight members, and the addition; of Mr. Roy Cooke, a basso, will enable a special feature being made of harmonised work. Mass Holden, who has a great reputation as an entertainer, has not appeared here previously- Miss Elsa Langley, the dainty soubrette, is sure of a warm reception from her many admirers. She has been a member of the company for many years, and is one of the most popular" in the combination. During the season just completed at St. Kilcla, Melbourne, the Pierrots gave over 400 different items from their repertoire.
