THURSDAY COMPETITIONS
! The Thursday Competitions we to resumed yesterday afternoon. Rain began to fall at the commencement -and continued 'through both spells, consequently the ground was slippery, and accurate pla-v was out of the question. High School defeated Gisborne in the ladies’ competition, and West End and City each secured victories over their opponents. LADIES’ COMPETITION. HIGH SCHOOL (4) v. GISBORNE High School defeated Gisborne on the Reserve by 4 goals to nil. School showed good combination and kept tlieir opponents in tlieir own territory for the greater portion of the game. Miss B- Butterfield scored all of High School’s goals. Besides Miss Butterfield, Miss M. Fairlie and C. Baty in the forwards and Misses L. Fanning, D. Keiha, and M. Bull in the backs were conspicuous, while the Musses Moore, Ferguson, and Stevenson were the pick of the Gisborne eleven. Gisborne’s forward line was weak. School worked hard throughout the game. Mr. Lewis was referee. MEN’S COMPETITION. WEST END (4) v- TE RAD (1). West End met Te Ran on No. 2 ground at the Domain, and after a good game succeeded in defeating their opponents by 4 goals to 1. W est End forwards were in good form, and Olsen, Smale, and Price were conspicuous among the backs. Te Ran did not play up to their usual standard. and tliev lacked dash. Mr. Garrett refereed. CITY (4) v. CIVIL SERVICE (3). City and Civil Service met on the Reserve, when the former won by 4 goals to 3, after a most- interesting game. Mr Sinel was referee.
