BROUGHT BEFORE THE COURT.

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] AUCKLAND. June 21

A prisoner named Charles John Brooks, who escaped from eustcdv.last week and hid himself in a coal bunker on the steamer Nairnshire, appeared before Mr:- Cutton at the Police Court, to-day. In addition to the charge of escaping from legal custody. Brooks was charged with stealing a watch and chain and 25s in money, of a total vale of £59 os, from the steamer Hauiti, and also with stealing a. pocketbook containing some photographs, a master’s certificate, and other documents, of a total value of £3, from the steamer Mokoia _ Accused, who admitted the charges, and stated that he sold the watch t° a barman for £4 1.55, was committed to the Simreme Court for sentence.
