NAPIER CARNIVAL WEEK.
COMPREHENSIVE ARRANGEMENTS’. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. NAPIER, July 11. In connection with the approaching musical competitions, .arrangements j are being made . for the carrying j through of an excellent programme of sports during the same weekThose interested in the projected event have been working for' some weeks and now success is within easv distance. The merchants and .shopkeepers have signified their intention to close their establishments in. order that their employees may take part in or witness some of the events of what it is hoped will develop nito an annual carnival week. A meeting of citizens has been called for Friday evening in the Couofil Chambers to further the project, and it is hoped that there will l>e a large and representative gathering at the meeting in older that the most suitable arrangements may be made and public interest in the scheme aroused. The programme includes a hockey tournament, three representative Rugbv two Soccer matches, two Northern Union matches, an industries week, a musical carnival, an art exhibition, and a skating carnival on all mornings when there is nothing else on. Free admittance will be allowed to visitors to the musical competitions.
