LIGHTING OUR COASTS.
— DEPUTAITON TO THE MINISTER[PER PF.ESS ASSOCIATION ] WELLINGTON, Aug. 19. A deputation .rerpesenting the Shipowners’ Federation of New Zealand was introduced to Hon. F. M. B. Fisher (Minister for Marine) to-day by Mr Bradnev, ALP., and the question of lighting the various parts of the coast was discussed. The Minister was assured that the concensus of opinion in maritime circles was in favor of a light on the Three Kings, and also a fog signal, the opinion being expressed that an equipment of that nature would have prevented such a disaster as the Elingamito wreck. The controversy over the relative merits of a light on Flat Rock as . against Flat Point was also referred to by the deputation, who declared that a majority of mariners favored the former. The lightship suggested at the Three Kings was described as an absurd idea. The Minister promised to consider the representations.
