THE MODERN WOMAN.
Tho old prejudice, which tells us that- woman is incapable of the necessary physical endurance, dies hard. jo work all clay at a mangle or wasninb would be quite feminine and ordinary; but to swim all day qiuuj impossible. Yet now our girls haw changed their attitude. They not only swim well, but are experts at rowing, golfing and hockey. I think they began with cricket (writes a correspondent in the “Pall Alall Gazette.”) When hockey came along we heard terrible warnings. The size of the hands and feet- were to increase; to an alarming extent. Yet- our fair devotees .seem to possess both dainty bands and trim feet, while the improvement in their health and physique is manifest. It was never unwomanly to drive a pony carriage, but who could imagine that young women would become possessed of sufficient nerve power, resolution and quickness of initiative to drive a motor or pilot an aeroplane in the teeth of the wind.
