The Avondale Jockey Club’s spring meeting opened to-day in cold ana showery weather, and tlio going was witfy hea'vy. TJie fields wore largo and the racing was interesting. The attendance was large and the total investments for the day aggregated £15,616 as against £13,443 for the corresponding day last year. Results :

A heavy shower fell as the horses lined up at the post. Monojack was the first to show out, followed bv Soultikoff, Merry Roc, Rosea and The Hague were first into the straight-, the first-named winning in good style by a length. Rosea was fourth. Handicap Hurdles, of 100 sovs.. two miles.—s 11. Hannon’s To Waharoa 9.0 (Me Flynn) 1. 1 Sphinx 9.2 2,2 Ambergris 9.5 3. Also started: 3 Lloyds 10.12, 4 Miss Explosion 10.0, 6 Nape Nape 9.2. 7 Blue Mount 9.0, 8 Mildura 9.0. Te Waharoa led over the first obstacle and was never headed, winning in hollow fashion by two lengths. Hie third horse- was six lengths away, fjords and Blue Mount fell. Time: 3.58 3-5.

Avondale Cup. of 350 sovs.. one mile and a-qunrter.—l F. Hall’s Bleriot 6.13 (Percival) 1, 3 Goldsize 7.11 2, 5 Uranium 7.13 3. Also started: 8 Master Wairiki 8.1. 6 Maui Nina 7.9, 2 Prince Soult 7.9. 4 Sea Elf 7.8. 7 Jolie File 7.6 8 Kaween 6.12. 7 Sea Pink 6.11, 10 Lady Betty 6.7. The race was started in a heavy shower. Prince Soult and Lady Betty led past the stand, with Sea Elf bringing up the rear. Going down the back Bleriot ran to the front, followed by straight, and finishing full of running won convincingly by a length. Golo Size was a nose in front of Uranium. ,S:»a Ell’ finished fast, and was fourth. Time, 2-miu 16 2-nseo.

Bump pulled up, and Hunakeha nan off at the douom the second time round, carrying off ’Bui Cakobau. who was going very well in second place.
