LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL YESTERDAY.
PHARMACY AAIENDAIENT ACT.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] AVELLINGTON, Oct. 10. The Council resumed at S p.m.
In Committee on the Pharmacy Amendment Act on Air Bell’s motion clause 2, dealing with chemists paying commission on doctors’ prescriptions, was altered to read: -‘Every proprietor manager, or registered chemist who pays or offers to pay commission on prescriptions is guilty of an offence.”
Another amendment providing against chemists supplying doctors with prescription forms bearing any notification of address of such proprietor or chemist was also made. The Bill was reported with amendments.
LOCAL AUTHORITIES SUPERANNUATION.
The Local Authorities Superannuation Amendment Bill on clause 2 the Alinister agreed to Air Barr’s amendment providing for the inclusion of all who become contributors within six months of the establishment of the fund.
Another amendment by Air Jenkinson limiting all future superannuation allowances to £3OO was carried by 11 votes to 7.
The Bill was reported with amendments.
DIVORCE LAWS AAIENDAIENT. On the second reading of the Divorce and Alatrimonial Causes Amendment- Bill Air Bell said the measure provided a reduction from ten to seven years of the period of confinement in a lunatic asylum necessary as the cause for a divorce. Another amendment was for legalising the marriage again of either party as soon as the decree absolute is granted. Ho remarked that many people did not realise that it had been necessary to wait three months after the granting of the decree absolute before the divorced party could again marry. . The Bill was read a second time, as also were the W anganui River Trust and Hauraki Plains Amendment Bills. The Council adjourned.
