INVESTIGATIONS TO BE MADE.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] AIELirjURNE, Oct. 10. The Assembly, on the motion of the Premier, discharged tlje Colonial Alutual Insurance Society No. 2 Bill from the notice paper. No. 1 Bill, a private measure, was then recommitted, and reached the third reading stage.
Thg Premier stated that he was aware that Parliament was not prepared to pass the Bill the Government had introduced, members considering it too drastic, and the circumstances not warranting the acute treatment proposed. He had received two applications signed by certain original shareholders, representing seventyfive shares. The first was signed by Judge Docker and the second [by the Chief Justice of South Australia, asking for an investigation into the Society’s affairs, to he conducted under the provision of the Companies Act. Four directors of the soeiety had also approved of the appointment of inspectors to make investigations. After a general discussion No. 1 Bill was amended to provide that the Go-vornor-in-Council appoint one or more competent inspectors to investigate and present to Parliament at least once every two months a. report on the business of the society. The Bill then passed all stages, and was forwarded to the Legislative Council. _
