RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. [BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. Although the really solid training has now been completed, a good deal of interest was taken in this morning’s work at Riccarton, which consisted mostly of sprinting The plough track on which most of the work was done was in excellent order for fast galloping. and some really good times were registered. At the time of writing the weather promises fair, and if that promise is fulfilled this year’s Cup meeting shotild prove quite as successful as any of its predecessors. Although, judging by present quotations, backers have very pronounced opinions as to the result of the New Zealand Cup it appears, when one considers form, a very open race. Allegory will probably * start favorite, and though his public form and his track work at Riccarton have not provided anything sensational ho lias a great reputation and is evidently more than useful.
Rumors are current to tho effect that Vice-Admiral is an unlikely starter, and it would not ho surprising to find Allegory Mr Greenwood’s sole representative. Masterpiece and Midnight Sun are in grand condition, and the former’s training uallops have been so satisfactory that he is sure to run well. Undecided in his public essays has proved himself to he a good horse, while Goldfinder appears to have struck his old form. C. Emmerson has been engaged to ride Odessa, while Berry will have the mount on Obligant, so the two lightweights will lack nothing in the way of horsemanship. The riders are:—
Vice-Admiral 9.1 ( ), Bronze (A. Olliver) 8.8, Undecided (W. Young) 8.4, Lady Lucy (W. Price) 8.1, Domino (J. O’Shea) 8.0, Midnight Sun (L. Wilson) 8.0, Masterpiece (F. E. Jones) 7.13, Goldfinder (W.
